Privacy Policy
Effective: 1 February 2026 · Last updated: 1 February 2026
This legal text is maintained in English (and Simplified Chinese). The English version governs.
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Tacet app and service (“Tacet”, “we”) collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the controls you have. It applies to the Tacet mobile apps for iOS and Android and to this website where it collects information (for example, when you email us).
Tacet is built so that the content of your conversations is not something we can browse or sell, and so that we collect the minimum needed to run the service. There is no advertising in Tacet and no third-party trackers or analytics SDKs in the app.
Together with our Terms of Service, this policy forms the agreement between you and us about your data. If you do not agree, please do not use Tacet.
This website sets no cookies, loads no third-party resources, and runs no analytics. Your language choice is stored only on your own device and is never sent to us. Like most web servers, ours keeps standard access logs (such as IP address, time, requested page, and browser type) for security, abuse prevention, and troubleshooting; the logs rotate automatically and are deleted after a limited period (currently up to 14 days).
2. Information we collect
Account data. Your phone number or email address (used as your account identity and to send verification codes), your display name, your Tacet ID, your profile photo, and your preferences such as language, appearance, and notification settings.
Device data. Device model, operating-system version, app version, language and time zone, and a per-device identifier and credentials used to deliver your messages and to list your linked devices in Settings.
Usage and delivery data. When your device last connected, message timestamps and delivery/read state, and technical logs needed to operate, secure, and debug the service (for example, error logs and rate-limit counters). We do not log message contents.
Content you send. Messages, photos, files, voice messages, and locations you choose to send are transmitted and stored so they can be delivered to the people you send them to and synced to your own linked devices. Recalled messages show a “deleted” placeholder and their content is cleared.
Optional data you provide. Contacts you choose to sync to find friends, and support emails you send us. Each of these is optional and described before you provide it (see §5).
3. How we use information
We use the information above only to:
- create your account and sign you in on your devices;
- deliver messages, media, and notifications, and show conversations in the right order;
- match address-book contacts you choose to sync, so you can find people you know;
- prevent abuse such as spam, automated account creation, and harassment (including enforcing blocks);
- keep the service secure and reliable, diagnose problems, and comply with legal obligations.
Where the law requires a legal basis (for example, the EU GDPR), these uses rest on: performing our contract with you (operating the service you asked for); your consent (optional syncing, optional permissions — withdrawable at any time); our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, reliability, applied proportionately and without selling data); and legal obligations.
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We do not use message contents to build advertising profiles, and we show no third-party ads.
- We include no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
- We do not share your phone number or email address with other users unless you found each other by that identifier and you accepted the contact request (see the in-app contact details).
5. Device permissions
Tacet never requests system permissions at install or sign-in. Before any system prompt, the app shows its own short explanation of what is being asked and why, and a system permission is requested only at the moment you use the feature. Every permission is optional — declining only disables that feature:
- Contacts — only when you tap “Find friends”; used to match people you know on our server.
- Photos and videos — only when you attach or save media.
- Camera — only when you take a photo in the app.
- Microphone — only while you hold the button to record a voice message.
- Location — only when you share your location in a chat; a single location to that chat’s members. We never track your location in the background.
- Notifications — asked once after sign-in, to deliver message alerts; switch off any time.
You can withdraw any permission later in your system settings; Tacet keeps working except for the related feature.
6. Sharing and third parties
We share data only with service providers that help us run Tacet, and only what they need for that purpose. They must use it solely to provide that service:
- Verification delivery. SMS providers deliver registration codes (routing depends on your country code), and our email provider delivers email codes and support replies.
- Hosting and infrastructure. The servers and network that store and deliver your account and messages.
We do not share message contents with these providers beyond what is technically required for delivery, and we never share data with advertisers or data brokers.
We may disclose information if we are legally required to (for example, a valid court order), or when necessary to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service. If we receive such a request, we disclose no more than the law requires.
7. International transfers
Our servers may be located in a different country than yours, so your information may be transferred and stored there. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for those transfers (such as standard contractual clauses for EEA/UK data).
8. Retention
We keep account data while your account is active. Messages are stored so they can be delivered to your devices; messages you delete (for yourself, by recall, or by deleting a conversation) are removed from the service, and recalled message contents are cleared.
We keep a limited amount of technical and security data (such as abuse-prevention records and error logs) only as long as needed to protect the service and meet legal requirements, and we delete or anonymize it afterwards.
9. Deletion and your rights
Delete your account in the app at any time (Settings → Delete account). This removes your profile, contacts, and conversation history from the service. If you cannot open the app, email [email protected] from your account’s email address (or tell us your phone number and Tacet ID) and we will verify you and delete the account, normally within 30 days. Deleting the account deletes the associated user data; we do not merely freeze it.
A small amount of data may be retained after deletion where we must do so — for example, to complete a transaction you requested, to detect fraud and abuse, or to comply with the law. Any such retention is described here and kept to the minimum.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and (in California) to know what is collected and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. To exercise any of these, contact [email protected]; we respond to verified requests as the law requires. You may also manage much of your data directly in the app (profile, devices, notifications, blocking, message deletion).
10. Security
Traffic between your device and Tacet is encrypted in transit. Access uses per-device credentials rather than a shared password, verification codes are short-lived and rate-limited, and sensitive data cached on your device is stored encrypted. An account PIN and screen lock add further protection (see in-app Settings).
No system is perfectly secure. Please use a screen lock, keep your device updated, and never share verification codes with anyone — we will never ask for them.
11. Children
Tacet is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country, where higher). You must be at least that age to use Tacet. If we learn that an account belongs to a child below that age, we will delete it. Parents or guardians who believe a child uses Tacet can contact us and we will act promptly.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Tacet evolves. If a change is material, we will notify you in the app before it takes effect and update the date above. Continuing to use Tacet after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
13. Contact
Privacy questions, rights requests, and deletion requests: [email protected]. Please include your Tacet ID and, for account requests, write from your account’s email address so we can verify you. If you are in the EEA/UK you also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
- 创建账户,并在你的设备上登录;
- 投递消息、媒体与通知,并按正确顺序展示会话;
- 匹配你选择同步的通讯录,帮你找到认识的人;
- 防范垃圾信息、自动化批量注册、骚扰等滥用(含执行拉黑);
